FreeProxy running Windows Server 2003 as proxy server and Windows XP clients.?

The server acts as the domain controller and DNS hosting and AD, as well as tasks that the Internet proxy server. How I can do this? I tried a free software called FreeProxy (http://www.handcraftedsof…ware.org/index.php?page=5) to save on the budget. He is separated from the rest of our network to find out how to block users. http://img526.imageshack.us/my.php?image=proxysettingze7.gif The problem lies in the configuration of the clients (or maybe my Windows Server 2003). I can configure Windows XP clients to use proxy via LAN Settings: 1. How will I force clients to use the proxy server? 2. How I can restrict local accounts (and permit authenticated AD accounts only) access to the Internet? 3. (Just a follow-up question) … Without using a firewall, how I can block streaming (radio videos online ..) without blocking the entire site. Some news sites have to disable this feature would help to release the band

I Antirions response but I would like to add some things to think with reason a proxy can be a good idea. Incidentally, I believe that using the server as a proxy server is a very bad idea because that is their nets heart. If all goes by, really have no protection if you have a virus or malware whatsoever. I prefer, when using a proxy server, to configure a dedicated computer / server to handle situation. You probably will not need hardware or software powerful expensive. Be FreeProxy is free and can use that, but there are better products out there that suit their needs and are more configurable than him. I will not try to direct one way or another. There are some assumptions that I'm going to do about the network. First, I'll assume that you have a firewall. If not, go out and buy one. For your network of business, you could buy a simple D-Link Sonicwall or even for very little money. The SonicWALL do all the firewall, antivirus protection, proxy services, change, and VPN all in one if you decide to go that route. Secondly, I will assume that you want your network be as safe as possible. Third, I will assume that you're not serving everyone as handles in a demilitarized zone. If you are serving the things in the demilitarized zone, it does not really matter, but I advise a little different if you did. The first thing I would do is block all unnecessary ports of exit internal network to the Internet. This is essential to preventing malware and knowledgeable about your property. For now, allow internal users to use HTTP, HTTPS and FTP to continue exiting the internal network. Let's change that later, however. Next, I configure your proxy server with one network card. No need two of them, if you are inside the firewall (ie proxy server is not going to the firewall). Get everything and tested for the server Use this proxy server and accessing the Internet. Configure your DNS proxy server to cache the ISP DNS servers. Subsequently, set the GPO settings for configuring Users of Internet Explorer to use the proxy server. Ensure that users can not change this setting. If you use Firefox, download the ADM files to modify to use also configure proxy server. There are plenty of other options you can do with Internet settings, but power is the most important for now. Then Once all users have logged out or received the GPO settings (logging off and back on ADM is required for Firefox to work because it is configured through a logon script), to block all internal users to go out in the DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and ports with the exception of the proxy server. If are using the proxy server for other services, also block the firewall. You might be saying, "I need DNS …" However, the proxy server must do all DNS queries for you. Finally, remove the DNS forwarders on the domain controller no longer seeks to Internet addresses. Only will resolve internal IP. Customers will not be able to change their proxy settings (but will be able to use anonymous proxy servers on the Internet through FreeProxy your server. You'll have to block it with a web content filter). FreeProxy does not support LDAP, so you can not limit its users log on to any so that I know of. That's why I mentioned taking into account a different proxy server (that supports LDAP). As Antirion said, you can use GPO to restrict your streaming media and all the rest. You can also block the use of filters to specific IP addresses or URLs FreeProxy, but you can easily get around that by using an anonymous proxy. A content filter works well or GPO setting also works quite well. However, people always think of new ways to get through firewalls. For example, the other day, I discovered Meebo.com. It is a site that has all the major messengers through an HTML page … There is a constant battle going to block access and get around the blocks. Good luck and enjoy, WG
