Why can’t I connect to the internet: Signal Strength is Srong?
Okay, so I don’t have any new products. Everything was working just fine yesterday. It’s on an HP laptop windows 7. My signal strength is strong, but cannot go on any pages. I am using a Belkin router. I’ve already tried turning on/off the router, no change. I tried changing proxy settings, no change. I turned off my firewall settings, no change.
The only way my internet works is through Safe Mode with Networking.
I also tried to scan for viruses/spyware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and Avast! Free Anti-virus, nothing was found.
I’m guessing this is software related but I have no clue. Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve my issue?
BTW- I use Firefox and also have Internet Explorer- both have the same issue.
Safe Mode with Networking implies that the services and/or processes loading at a normal startup are what are making the difference.
For a short-term solution you may want to roll back to a previous System Restore point
There are a lot of possibilities here, but it’s not clear what’s causing the outage. In the majority of cases, you wouldn’t need to touch your proxy or your firewall settings (unless they were already present, in which case you should refer to the person who set your connection up).
The system configuration utility (MSCONFIG) as well as the system management for Services should give you an idea of what could be disabled (and then selectively re-enabled) to pinpoint the trouble.
On the other hand, if you still can’t fix everything after a system restore, you may want to use the recovery partition / recovery disc to roll it back to factory settings (after you back up your files). Then, you’ll want to install an antivirus suite (a good one, maybe Norton) before you connect to the internet again.
