What is the difference between Web and HTTP Proxy?
I'm trying to write a short paper on the difference between http proxy and web proxy, and surprisingly I can not find much information on the subject. I have the feeling that http proxy is only one type of web proxy, but someone told me that deals with http proxy applications and web proxy to other websites. In any case, I'm confused … What is the differenecne and what is each used? Please help.
I think are absolutely identical. Web proxies I've used a lot, whether Microsoft proxy server, squid, tinyproxy, etc., and all work in the HTTP protocol. Some can do FTP also, but that is not technically the web "" however, only HTTP. The "system" tends to refer to "the world wide web" it is http based. FTP, SMTP, POP3, and all other protocols for other types of application protocols (no web / http). socks 'A' proxy can proxy all TCP socket connections not only HTTP, maybe that is what they want you to compare with. You may have to ask for confirmation if that is what we were missing.
