Email piracy is a very common practice. I was surprised by the number of sites offering to teach someone how to hack mail. This is a terrible practice and not only is an invasion of privacy, but can be used for a variety of illegal practices.
In today's news: "Attorney appeals the decision of Palin email hacking", as shown in NewsChannel5.com, a young man has been found guilty of hacking into email account of Sarah Palin during the presidential campaign. His sentence may be 21 months in jail! This certainly is not laughing matter. For those people who have had their email hacked … there is nothing funny about it. What can you do to keep your mail hacked?
1. Never give personal or account information in an email.
Most email accounts are hacked for phishing. Phishing is when you receive an email from what appears to be a legitimate site and they are required to click on links or enter personal information or private. Never this, because if you do, just give hackers the personal information needed to access "their accounts, such as banking or credit card details.
These hackers can be very smart and work hard to make the "phishing site" appears as the legitimate website. If you receive an e-mail your bank and asks you to click a link in the email … do not. If requested account information … do not. If you know the web address of your bank type in your browser. Then login and see if there are any messages for you. Any legitimate bank will never ask for personal account details in an email. Alternatively, you can call your bank, phone number on their bank statements or phone. Never use the one in the mail.
2. Use an Internet browser that has "filters" phishing. "A phishing filter is a software program that works to identify web sites scams which try to represent legitimate sites. Firefox and Windows 7 are only two browsers that include phishing filters.
3. Check filters your email account. For example, if you use Gmail, you can login and go to settings and then check your filters. See if you recognize as you created. Otherwise, get rid of it.
4. Never click on links in email unless you know the page that you are carrying. I found a very useful tool called "Cooliris" and is a plugin that lets you preview a page without clicking the link. Not only does it prevent you click a link unwilling to go, but also saves time by not having to open another web page or tab to view the landing page for the link.

Remember, hackers tend to access our email when we opened the door for them. Be alert and be careful when clicking links in emails when you are not sure that in any way.
