1. Introduction
Recently I met two useful tools that should be especially useful for developers and maintainers of sites Internet. They are:
– GFTP
– KompoZer
You will find a brief introduction below.
2. The Gnome FTP Client
This is a GNU and Open Source Visual FTP client (like Filezilla or CuteFTP known in Windows) with a GUI GTK +, which is released under the GNU. It is primarily for Linux and Unix systems, but can also be used on Mac OS and Windows.
This supports the FTP, FTPS HTTP, HTTPS, SFTP and FSP protocols, which supports the proxy server for HTTP and FTP and FXP for transferring files between two remote servers via FTP.
The interface GUI has two main panels with the left to the local computer and the right of the remote machine. You can choose the directories on the local machine and remote, and request transfer selected files from either local to the remote machine or vice versa. In these two panels the program displays a message queue where the user can check the progress of the transfers.
There is also a favorites menu that lets you quickly connect to remote sites.
In the past used to work with lftp line oriented, but I thought I could do better and faster use of the graphical user interface based on the tool.
I installed the tool without any problem, in my systems openSUSE 11.0 openSUSE 10.2 and using a RPM-based package.
3. The tool Kompozer Web authoring
Kompozer is an HTML and CSS easy WYSIWYG editor. This is a complete web authoring system that combines web file management and easy use the powers of the WYSIWYG web page editing found in Microsoft FrontPage, Adobe Dreamweaver and other high end programs.
The tool has a graphical interface that shows different views of the same document as the HTML source code, a label or an external perspective on the various panels. You can change easily between these points of view and make changes to an HTML or CSS document in the most convenient. It also IHAS integrated FTP function.
Kompozer is a standalone tool with small size and fast in speed based on Gecko, the layout engine inside Mozilla.
I installed the application smoothly on my OpenSUSE 10.2 and openSUSE 11.0 using the RPM package system which can be downloaded from the official site of KompoZer.
4. Conclusion
The two products described above are good examples of functionally advanced applications that can be easily installed on Linux machines.
