What is the Tor Network "" I really used?

Im Using the Tor network (proxy) and I installed the package. Installed Both Tor and Privoxy. I think Privoxy is basically like a web proxy, which you can use with your browser. Ive set privoxy with my Opera browser, and works well, and Ive connected Tor, but it seems there is no room Privoxy while doing all the work .. Is it meant to be this way? Tor or not only have a use? Or just merged both to work as a proxy web?
