I need a proxy, they all want a Proxy
I'm not going to be very popular after the publication of this article, but this is really a big problem and must be addressed very quickly before it grows into another digital snowball like spam and malware. IT departments spend so much time and money on network security. Restrictions put in place, not only to protect corporate data, but also for the safety of all those working in the corporate network.
However, restrictions network are not just for the corporate world, these restrictions are also present in schools and even in our homes. But what is the use of protection data and privacy if you constantly have to deal with cyber rats eating their way through their defenses from the inside?
A proxy is often blocked as soon as the network administrator becomes aware of the fact that they used to gain unauthorized access to websites and other networks. That is the reason why people are constantly looking for brand new powers and what frightens me more is the speed at which these new powers are available, so bad that even can be considered as another form of spam.
The sad reality however is that people who use these proxies, either do not know anything about PC security, or do not care a damn about it. Looking for restricted sites via an illegal proxy exposes your computer against malware and hackers, putting at risk the entire network. The confidential and sensitive information to enterprises can be easily filtered and the privacy of each employee using the corporate network could be compromised due to the selfish acts of employees who can not walk between the lines.
So not only are putting their colleagues in a difficult position, their commitment to their own safety as well. The most popular reason for a proxy to access to social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, Orkut or Twitter. Social networking sites are time and money wasters in terms of productivity, bandwidth and resources of the company. Instead of doing their work, people waste hours and hours of productivity during the day, hanging out on social community sites.
To make matters worse, they do not use their own bandwidth to relax at these sites, which use the bandwidth business, company computers and printer company to do what they should do after work. Children go through these social communities instead of attending to their schoolwork, wasting their parents money or the taxpayers' money if The government funds the school. Speaking of the government, what about government workers?
Rather than deliver the services you pay, surf MySpace, Facebook, Orkut or Twitter with our tax money. (Some governments do not even have network security to speak of, so they can access any site without the use of a proxy).
Do not get me wrong, I'm not against the use of social networking sites, but there is a time and place for everything and social networking sites have no place in the office or at school (unless you are the manager of public relations firm to maintain the company profile on MySpace).
Before everyone starts calling me a party pooper, accusing me take the fun out of the office, consider this: If everyone spent more time on their work and less time on social networking sites during working hours we have much more work to do and therefore have plenty of time to hang out with friends and family in our favorite social networking sites.
Do not be angry with your employer to limit their access to the Internet, the fact that you are using a proxy to prevent Internet filters and other limitations imposed by your employer, I say no can use the Internet responsibly. If you really need to use these sites, visit them after work or after school and if you do not have a computer at home, use a friend's computer or visit an Internet cafe.
It should be mentioned however, that third party proxies are not only used to access social networking sites, but are also popular for porn surfing and downloading pirated software, music and movies.
These sites are far worse than social networking sites because not only waste valuable man-hours, are often loaded with nasty malware, a direct threat to the safety of everyone working on the network.
The conclusion is, companies invest heavily in computer security, computer labs in schools are doing everything possible to keep their networks safe and clean and parents invest in software parental control to keep their young people access to harmful content on the Internet. Still you that people who want to break all these barriers, ignoring the damage they cause and the risks that are created during the process. Without going through the parental control software on the family computer can easily lead to a site, are prohibited where a clever rootkit finds its way into your system.
You can register a credit card number here and there and a password before your people know what is happening, which could be staring bankruptcy in the face. The same can happen at work or at school, an infected PC can cause many problems to other people using the same network.
Do you want something like this on your conscience? Proxies may have their uses, but should not be used to cross digital borders illegally. Unless are allowed to visit a specific site at work or at school, then there is probably a good reason not to visit. If you decide to visit banned sites without proper authorization, you risk losing your job, getting suspended or even more severe restrictions on the network can be implemented.
I hope that this information is helpful.
