Access to surfing history through wireless network?
I apologize for my lack of technological terminology:
My internet is connected through a wireless router which connects to a main cable-internet network. If a friend has the passwords/access to the wireless router or the network the router is connected to, can he view my internet history?
What if I surf the internet through a proxy site?
I downloaded a Firefox plugin called TrackMeNot. It states that the plugin unfortunately “Doesn’t encrypt or prevent personal surfing data being recovered”. Does this plugin prevent the websites addresses that I visited from being viewed by someone with network access?
Thank you all for the detailed answer
I mean, seeing the actual URL of the site as opposed to something that jumbles up the URL like what a proxy site does.
He wouldn’t be able to get the information from the router, but if he has access to the infrastructure (the wire from the router to the modem) and put a hub there, he could put a sniffer laptop and capture all the traffic coming and going on the network.
If he has the WEP keys or PreShared Key (PSK) for the wireless network, he could sniff the wireless and decrypt the packets.
