How do I get Ubuntu to work? ?

Hi, I recently installed Ubuntu onto my computer using “virtualbox” by sun. I did everything I was supposed to, and I even installed the guest additions, but there’s no sound and I can’t get the internet to work.

About the sound: When I try to access the sound menu, it says that I don’t have a sound driver and that I don’t have a sound card.

About the internet: I’m at school and there’s a proxy but I inputted the exact same settings from my windows firefox and put them into the Ubuntu one and it still doesn’t work.

@Pedro – he’s wrong. Ubuntu is easier to install and use than Windows XP – it’s the Virtualbox that is giving trouble.

I think it’s better to boot from the CD – then you’ll find out if it’s suitable for your hardware (now it’s good for maybe 85% of computers less than 3 years old).

I run XP in a virtualbox – but only for doing work, getting the sound and networking online isn’t always easy. Check the settings of your virtualbox – you might not have it enabled, but either way it might be tough to fix it in Windows.

Now, running XP and Vista in Virtualbox on Ubuntu is a breeze.

Get the CD and burn it, then boot – on mine, everything works – networking and sound, and all the office software and other stuff – from the CD.

Join the forum – and ask anything there (if it isn’t already answered)
