Computer viruses rampant
Every day new computer viruses are created to harass and wreak havoc on our computer systems. Then ten viruses are currently cited as the most prevalent in terms of being seen more or their ability to cause harm. New viruses are created daily. This is by no means an exhaustive list. The best thing to do is remain vigilant, keep your antivirus software updated and be aware of the current computer virus threats.
Virus: Trojan.Lodear
A Trojan horse that attempts to download remote files. It will inject a. Dll file into the EXPLORER.EXE process causing system instability.
Virus: W32.Beagle.CO @ mm
A mass-mailing worm that lowers security settings. You can delete security-related registry sub keys and may block access Web sites related to security.
Virus: Backdoor.Zagaban
A Trojan horse that allows the infected computer to be used as a covert proxy and which can degrade network performance.
Virus: W32/Netsky-P
A mass-mailing worm that spreads by e-mail to the addresses of the files produced local units.
Virus: W32/Mytob-GH
A mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform. Messages sent by this worm will The theme chosen at random from a list with titles like: Notice of account limitation, e-mail account suspension, safety measures, Members Support, Important Notice.
Virus: W32/Mytob-EX
A mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan similar in nature to W32-Mytob-GH. W32/Mytob-EX runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote user access and control over the computer via IRC channels. This virus is spread by sending email attachments itself harvested from their email addresses.
Virus: W32/Mytob-AS, Mytob-BE, Mytob-C, and Mytob-ER
This family of worm variations possesses similar characteristics in terms of what they can do. They are mass-mailing worms door functionality back that can be controlled through Internet Relay Chat (IRC). One can also spread through email and through various vulnerabilities operating system such as the LSASS (MS04-011).
Virus: Zafi-D
A mass-mailing worm and a worm peer-to-peer, which is copied to the Windows system folder with the filename Norton Update.exe. Virus: W32/Netsky-D
A mass-mailing worm with IRC backdoor functionality which can also infect computers vulnerable to the LSASS (MS04-011) exploit.
Virus: W32/Zafi-B
A peer-to-peer (P2P) and email worm that copies itself to the Windows system folder as a randomly named EXE file. This worm will test the presence of an Internet connection, try to connect to www.google.com or www.microsoft.com. A bilingual, worm with an attached Hungarian political box message text that translates to "We demand that the government has the capacity for the homeless, tightens up the penal code and vote for the DEATH PENALTY to reduce crime increasing.
